Giovanni P. Autran is an Emmy® Award winning filmmaker and Local 600 Cinematographer with a focus on projects that address social justice, climate change and culture. His keen eye and natural rhythm for editing make him a versatile storyteller for film, TV and commercials. His latest cinematography can be seen in hajooj kuka's comedy, aKasha, filmed in an active war-zone in Sudan. His editing work and verite style shooting can be seen on the docu-series, TIME: The Kalief Browder Story, from executive producer, Shawn "Jay Z" Carter (now on NETFLIX), and the award-winning documentary feature, The Legend of Swee' Pea, from executive producer, Carmelo Anthony. Giovanni frequently works as a freelance editor at Joint Editorial in NYC on commercial campaigns for Wieden + Kennedy. As director of photography, Giovanni has filmed narrative features Breakup at a Wedding and the Periods. film, both released by Oscilloscope.


Giovanni has over 15 years of experience working all over the world. Voyage of the Vezo, a documentary about a reef fishing society dealing with climate change on Madagascar's southwest coast, won him an EMMY® for directing in 2010. In 2012 he was the head editor for Nuba Reports based out of the Nuba Mountains of Sudan, the only journalists documenting the human rights violations in the region. In 2013 he co-founded Good Look, a filmmaking partnership with editor Charlie Porter in Brooklyn where he produces commercials and films. Giovanni was raised in Glen Cove, New York during the 1980's and 90's, in a South American home. He’s a lover, a woodsman and a cook, a proud graduate of the film program at Emerson College and is fluent in Spanish and French.
